St. John's International Women's Film Festival is Canada's longest-running women's film festival. It was launched in 1989 in response to this reality with a bold vision of supporting and promoting women's creative work in screen-based industries locally and internationally. 

A registered charity and not-for-profit organization, SJIWFF has become a vital voice in the Canadian film circuit and a respected leader in the movement for gender equity in the industry. SJIWFF brings critical artist development and creative vitality to Newfoundland and Labrador. 

Every year the Festival receives over 950 film submissions, all directed and/or written by women. From those, we present the best local and international films for filmmakers and film lovers alike for our signature five-day festival every October, complimented by a robust Film Industry Forum. With a focus on access, inclusion and diversity, our annual programming includes independent film screenings, artist-led masterclasses, career-accelerating mentorship programs and youth filmmaking camps. Our community outreach and advocacy work focus is achieving balanced representation both in front of and behind the camera.

SJIWFF offers the only opportunity that the Newfoundland and Labrador screen industries have to do national and international business here from home, playing an integral role in developing our artists and cultural sector with women at the forefront.

Elevating women and girls fosters total community engagement, wellness and transformation, which is why St. John's International Women's Film Festival has been successful and essential for over 30 years.
